The Build: Week 10

Wednesday, October 10th – Tuesday, October 16th

We were thrilled with the progress the framing crew made this week. They even put in some hours on Saturday to make up for lost time.

At this point the interior and exterior walls are fully framed and most of the trusses are in place. There is still an issue with one of the interior walls that needs to be addressed and after the trusses were placed in the master bedroom we noticed another issue there.

We were fortunate enough to run into Rick, our expeditor, on day 70 when we were cruising past to take our pictures, which we never did take. We spent a fair amount of time talking to him and he assured us the issues with the interior wall and master bedroom ceiling would be addressed.

On day 70 we saw WE Energies snooping around the lot and we also met with an electrician to discuss adding a junction box in the garage for an electric vehicle we may someday own.

We are still struggling with the radiant heating in the garage floor, and the fella who will be doing the low voltage wiring throughout the house. One thing I’ve learned is that it’s crucial to figure out exactly what you want before you get too deep into the process. It’s also helpful to work with a builder that understands your vision and has experience with the more “unusual” features and requests you may have. As we’re learning, ours unfortunately does not.

In the next few weeks we should see:

  • Meter for electrical service
  • Roofing
  • Radon mitigation system
  • Well drilling
  • Windows
  • Insulation for bathtubs and the fireplace
  • HVAC, electrical, and plumbing

10 weeks down, 15 to go.
